join in 表示 to take part in an activity ，指参加活动。

We all joined in the singing.

我们大家一起唱歌了。

join 表示参加某一团体、组织、机构，并作为其中一员（如：入党、入团、入会、参军等）；
join可以直接跟sb.，表示“加入某人（正在进行的活动）”。
He joined the Labour Party/this company in 1999. 
他1999年加入了工党/这家公司。 

show是演出表演，应该是参加某个活动，用join in，join in the show。
